Job Description – Engineering Technician

Details: Full-time, Office-based (Exeter, UK)

Theta Technologies is an equal opportunities employer at the forefront of Non-Destructive Testing. We are based in Exeter and have developed a new technology that will revolutionise the testing of safety critical parts. We are expanding our customer base and are building our highly performing team through a number of full and part time roles. The role: You will report to the Engineering Manager and lead the day-to-day management of the on-site laboratory. You will assist a team of engineers in test campaigns – building support structures, building test systems, or conducting experiments and will also help develop the business processes that underpin this work.

Person profile:

– Evidence of practical engineering skills (i.e. apprenticeship, vocational qualification, or similar)

– Experience using mechanical and electrical tools and manufacturing techniques.

– Experience with measurement equipment.

– Hold GCSEs grade B/ 6 or equivalent in Mathematics and English

– Possess good communication and presentation skills.

– Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

– Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively.

– Experience ordering and maintaining stock and resource.

– Experience of electronic assembly and soldering.

– Experience working in accordance with an ISO9001:2015 certified QMS and processes 

– Experience conducting risk assessments.

– Right to work in the U.K.

– Full, clean driving licence

– Conducting risk assessments as required for laboratory activities and ensure compliance.

– Promptly raise any concerns and recommend solutions/ resolving actions.

– Understand and comply with the relevant processes in the Quality Management System

Job Description – Engineering Technician

We are expanding our customer base and are building our highly performing team through a number of full and part time roles.

The role:

You will report to the R&D Manager and will support the engineering team in design meetings with customers and suppliers. You will be involved in research and development projects supporting our prototype programme and undertake rigorous experimental work using automated and manual systems. You will participate at internal design meetings and occasionally interface with clients at shows, conferences, and their sites.

Person Profile: 

– Minimum upper second-class honours degree in a STEM subject 

– Minimum of two years’ experience working in a Research and Development environment 

– Experienced interfacing with signal generation and data acquisition hardware 

– Knowledge of at least one programming language such as C++, LabVIEW or Python 

– Familiarity with signal processing algorithms (filters, Fourier transforms etc.) 

– Ability to conduct rigorous, scientific experiments 

– Excellent report-writing and verbal communication skills 

– Ability to prioritise 

– Ability to deliver against short lead times and consistently achieve agreed milestones 

– High quality standards and strong attention to detail 

– Ability to work well within a team whilst also using own initiative 

– Flexibility within the role 

– Experience working in accordance and ISO9001 certified QMS and processes 

– Right to work in the UK

 

Desirable, but not essential to the role: 

– Knowledge and experience using machine learning algorithms 

– Knowledge of automation systems and robotics 

– Understanding of materials and/or non-destructive testing 

– Familiarity with one or more manufacturing processes (such as AM, composites, castings)

 

You be accountable for: 

– Upholding the company values 

– Creating and delivering development proposals for test systems 

– Leading design review and producing supporting documentation 

– Project management the implementation of Research and Development projects 

– Supporting setup of laboratory tests
